Use of images

Hi all,

If someone is using photos I took of them in order to promote themselves and get more work, however nothing was signed or agreed at the time of taking them, am I within my right to request that they do not use them any more?

I understand this will mean I can no longer use the images, but I don't care.

EDIT: Actually, am I allowed to use them even if I request that they can't?

The photographer retains rights of the photos, so yes you are within your rights to ask them to stop using those photos. You can still use them yourself even if you request they don't, simply because they are your images, however you would need a model release form otherwise they'd be able to do the same thing to you.

She using them to get herself more work?

If it is I'd just leave it be, otherwise I'd look bitter

Yes it is. She is a bitch, and today has ****ed me off. Looks like she has done a few shoots recently and the photos are utter gash.

Walk away mate, you took some great shots and obviously I don't know the full story but I'd leave it. Make a completely clean break and try to forget about it.

Again I don't know what she put you through and if it was bad then maybe you have justification in stopping her using them. Myself I'd just put it down to experience and have a fresh start

Yeah, they're your images, so unless you've sold the copyright to her, then you can control their use and distribution. Saying that, it sounds like a complicated situation, so make up your own mind

The 'lovely lady' was my ex, and there'll be no photos of her I'm afraid. All I take photos of now is weddings, I really need to do more personal stuff again, haven't done anything for bloody ages

As far as I am aware model release forms are not a requirement in the UK. They're your pics, end of.
