Use SD card for app storage on Redmi 9?

Just got my son a cheap (£54!) Xiaomi Redmi 9, but it's only the 32gb version.

Is they're any way I can use his 128gb Micro SD card as system storage? It doesn't look like Miui 12 supports it natively, but I have found this - https://miui.blog/redmi-note-5/enabling-adoptable-storage-miui-devices/

It was a glitch on the Xiaomi website, £50 off automatically, then another £50 off when adding to your basket, loads of people got 2 for less than £90.

I think it was only live for an hour after midnight the other day, and I was on a nightshift, so it happened to fall well for me, spotted it on a UK deals site.
