And I don't mean the bimmer, although I admire the driver given how narrow it gets in places:

As I said elsewhere, I got to drive over Wrynose and Hardknott passes. You get fair warning:

Yes, it's that good. Try a blind right-angled bend on that 1-in-3 bit mentioned. On the way over it was raining, so water pouring off the hillsides over the road just added to the fun. But the best (and less scary bit) is the bottom: what you can see in the first pic, plus this going the other way:

Great road to drive when it's quiet, nightmare if there's loads of other people about. It's particularly bad on the bike as people tend to push you off the road at the bends, which isn't pleasant.

Looks good fun. My sat-nav has a "mountain passes" section in the points of interest menu. Hardknott and Wrynose is in there... I intend to visit them all (there are about 15) before I sell the car!

I've driven that in a Citroen Xantia. The ascent was made very difficult by the fact I had to follow an old woman in a Fiesta who kept stopping in utterly ridiculous places.

I seem to remember driving a decent road out of Ambleside...called something like 'the struggle'. It was only a couple of miles long but it was a good drive. Is that anywhere near the one in the pic?
