Use Windows 7 Pro key with Home Premium CD

Evening gents,

Do you guys know if it's possible to use a Windows 7 Home Premium CD and put a Pro key in?

it won't work as it is.

but you can save the disk to an ISO image (use imgburn for this) and then modify it with "eicfg_removal_utility.zip" found on this page....

now burn the modified ISO to a new DVD (write an image - don't burn a data disk with just the ISO on it

) and you can install any edition - obviously your key has to match what you choose.

(or you can make a bootable usb key if you prefer)

What about if the Home Edition is 32bit and I need 64bit?

(just noticed the CD is only 32)

then you'll need to acquire a 64bit disk/ISO. your key will work with 32bit but of course you don't want that. :eek:

You will need 64-bit media, otherwise the process is the same. If it is a Retail product key, see this thread for a link to (legal) Windows 7 isos.

Sirius, those ISO's worked perfectly!

Yes, it is a legit version. PC is at work as i need to rebuild it and i was at my GF's house yesterday and she only had a Home Premium DVD!
