I was reading about this on another site this morning.

There is no reason why anyone would not want one at just £130

Maybe someone who doesn't have any interest in high-def movies and only has an SDTV?

On a side note though this a good thing for HD-DVD I guess, although I hear you need a fairly powerful PC to do all the decoding or whatever.

I was refering to people on this forum, A PC forum, you know the "TV" that you use with your PC, its already does HD resolutions.

The only reason i wont get one is because i will be getting a PS3, thus getting Blu Ray movies ;)

If i wasn't getting a PS3 i would be tempted by this. Still think its an ugly solution by MS though. But thats just my opinion.

Do you have a nervous twitch? You seem to be winking a lot lately.

As for HD movies in Blu Ray or HD-DVD I don't see the point to be honest, is the difference in quality that big?

Its like the difference in having sex with a 50 year old fat woman, to going to a 18 year old page 3 model.

force of a bad habbit really lol Smilie overload lol

I have no idea if there is much of a difference, i will be giving it a try though when i can. Isn't the biggest difference noticable in 1080 as opposed to 720 though? And if the price of a new DVD is the same as the price of a new HD movie, i will buy the HD movie, even if its only a couple of quid more expensive.

Just messing with you :p

I'd really like to see a comparison between normal DVD and Hi Def just to see what the fuss is about. I don't have an HD TV so it's pointless for me right now but maybe in the future I'll upgrade, if I ever have any money.

It'll also be interesting to see how well this runs on a PC considering it's meant to be heavy on the 360's resources.

Only if you have a decent sized screen.

I was referring to that the fact that if you had an HD-DVD drive, you may want to use it on both your PC and TV, if I had one then I would, depending on if I was watching a film with other people or not.

Regardless, your original staement was a little silly.

'Just' £130 - yes that's loose pocket change to me

It may well be cheap for an HD-DVD player but it's still a large chunk of cash which for non-HDTV owners is going to be of little or no benefit. Personally I like to watch movies on my television, not on my computer monitor.

indeed, still £130.

personally i'm going to hold out for at least 6 months, no particular films i want on HD-DVD, plus go to the cinema loads anyway so rarely watch movies at home.

I don't know anyone that hooks their PC up to their TV to watch films, and I know loads of people who watch films on their PC. So when you consider the fact that this is a thread about using the HD-DVD player through Windows, and the vast majority of people who do link it up to their PC will watch it on their monitor, it IS a bargain at £130.

You can be pedantic and say that his original statement didn't convey that exact meaning - but when you try so hard to take someone out of context, there's no surprise; no-one else seemed to struggle.

Interesting. Amusing that the Mac detects it fully. The real test will be seeing how much internal HD drives for the PC will be, as it might end up being cheaper to crack open the xbox player.

posted this earlier this morning in the HD-DVD thread below this one lol

i knew it wouldnt take long for someone to try it on a pc lol

i have my pc connected to my big screen as well as my 360, but i always prefere to watch films through my PC and just keep 360 to games. when theres a decent hd-dvd player out this is gonna be great :)
besides, whent here is any decent hd-dvd player we'll be able to have proper DTS sound etc :D (i do prefere DTS to DD). afaik the 360 just sends everything out at DD

I've got my HTPC connected to my 37'' LCD and watch programs / films etc on it. mainly b/c 360 doesn't playback divx and not as 'easy' to use. Also use it to watch and recorded live TV.

I think this is a great idea. I personally have my macmini and 360 connected to the same HDTV. So could connect the HD-DVD drive to either if I was going to get one (unsure atm).

At present I watch DVDs through the macmini as the performance of the 360 DVD player is not even close to it. (Don't get me started on the noise difference between the 2!!).
