Hi guys,

Speccing up a graphics card, I currently do games at 1080, but want to get a new 1440 monitor over the next year and I'm thinking I might want to get a card with more than 2GB of memory for that.

So I've seen a EVGA 780 SC on a competitors website for £408 (delivered), and wondering whether I could save some money without gimping my gaming by getting a 680 Classified 4GB on the bay.

Thing is, all the 680 4GB classifieds are running at about £350 asking prices... Were these absolute beast cards or am I missing something?

They're probably charging a premium because there's people out there wanting to sli their existing 4GB 680 and there's not so many of them about now. A 680's performance is pretty comparable to a 770 albeit ever so slightly slower.

If you're in the market for a new card though my money would be on a 290 Pro 4GB with a non-reference cooler. If you prefer Nvidia then I'd go for a standard 780 and overclock it (they're very underclocked cards). These would be my options at the prices you've listed.

Ok, looked on anandtech and the 290 actually beats the 780 in almost all games and setups.... And it's cheaper. lol

So assuming you overclock it (let's talk about the EVGA superclock). Would it end up being faster than the 290?

Going to order that 4GB MSI Gaming 290 from OCUK tomorrow if it's still on offer. Beast mode activated.

My 7950 served me well, and this looks to be a whole lot faster so happy days. Even looks like it can push Battlefield along at 1440 on it's own.

Can't comment on it personally of course, but that looks like a great choice :)

Infact just realised the offer ends tomorrow, so I've ordered it now!

Maybe I'll be a lucky one that gets one that can be flashed to 290X
