Just wondering what the markups/margins that used car dealers normally work on are

I p/ex my Scooby for 12.5k to a dealer who know has it up for £14,950

www.chevintopcars.co.uk

obviously the dealer would need to valet it and it also had quite a few stone chips and a couple of minor car park dents that would have needed doing

just wondering if this is the normal for a a dealer to mark a car up by

Trader that I know seems to make about 20-30% at a minimum or he will pass the car onto another trader.

Bit gutting when you see that though isn't it :(

Youve got to think what else needs doing, the time he spends trying to sell it, advertising, as well as the rent of his premises, bills etc. Also he isnt going to sell it for that price, more like £14,500.

So ~ £2000 plus any extra money if he manages to sell finance with it. Not a great deal really.

Thing is, like you say it needs paint doing, it will be valeted, No doubt it will be checked over, have its oil changed etc etc. Then when someone comes in with a part exchange they think is worth way more than what it actually is, the dealer needs some margin to play with.

Having said that, there is still a lot more to be made from good second hand cars than there is on the majority of new ones.

This could make you cry rotty but these are the prices that your subaru would have gone for in a private sale in down here in Austrlia

20,328 GBP
20,177 GBP
20,602 GBP
20,389 GBP

Yes unless its a holden its expensive down here :(

Awesome:) I have never tried SMG myself, but I have been in a car equiped with it, apparently once you are used to it, its very good.

so I believe

The things I am struggling with at the moment are the fact that the paddles turn with the stearing wheel making gear changes mid bend/corner confusing and I can't get the hang of hill starts yet

Aye, I nose around SN occasionally still - seems it's a buyers market atm.

I think Subaru's days of selling Imprezas like hot cakes are over with.

Still fantastic cars but I'm glad I got shot when I did, for £ reasons.

Interesting.

I've driven two paddle-shift cars, an RS6 and a 360. The RS6 paddles turn with the wheel, SMG style, while the 360 don't. I found the RS6 much easier to adapt to as I tend to corner with 'fixed input' from my arms. Then again, I don't think I ever changed gear without the wheel straight in either car and neither were driven hard as they aren't mine :D.
