We had a big Scot's pine tree ( only 30ft or so) cut down a few weeks ago and I have spent quite a few hours with sledge hammer and log grenade - I am impressed with the grenade because it was so much better than a wedge -

I have now got to the real knotty bits and about 18" diam so out came the Aldi electric chainsaw - to say I was surprised is a understatement -- I was cutting these rounds vertically so it was throwing out those long wood strands but saw held up and I managed to do it all -- My back isn't very happy about it but it's ready to be stacked.

I used to have a Stihl 041 and Husky 454 so I can compare and for what I will be doing in future this electric saw will certainly do the job.

Aldi electric chainsaw...lol braver then me. Get yourself a decent chain for it. The one supplied will be utter tripe.

The Stihl 041 is oldschool. They stopped producing those back in the late 70s.

I did buy the 041 second hand in 70's so yes it's old school but it went with the Husky years ago

I was surprised today that with the amount of cutting I did the chain was still sharp - I assumed it was an Oregon chain same as bar. I have never forced my saws -they should cut with no pressure to talk of.

One thing I noticed is the latest chain oil is like water - used to be like treacle- thick and sticky. and it was £4.50 a ltr - hell it used to be a fiver for 5 ltrs

Ah Oregan chain is fine. Got a couple myself. Never heard of husky. My saws are Stihl for pruning and Husqvarna for felling.

I buy a barrel of oil for xx-xxx euros then just top up a 5 liter container as and when required. I don't waste money on expensive chain oil. I can go through a few liters a day when I've got a forest clearing job.

OK - I checked my saw today and Bar is a Oregon Double Guard 91 - The chain is also Oregon 91-56 teeth.

If I see a new chain on offer at Aldi I will treat myself to one as a spare.
