Useful Nvidia Dell 2405 DVD Playback Tip

As everyone knows by now the 2405 introduces a lot of video noise into the picture when viewing DVD's because of the panel type. The upscaling to 1920x1200 also produces a lot of grain artifacts and makes some movies look terrible.

Last night tried Nvidia Purevideo Decoder. It works perfectly via WMP10 and gives a far superior picture to PowerDVD6, WinDVD7, ZoomPlayer +Theatertek as all of those struggle to give a picture without a lot of video
graining noise & other artifacts.

Under Purevideo the picture is very smooth looking & fully uses the Nvidia 6 & 7 series cards built-in Mpeg2 hardware assist features.

Highly recommended and gives an almost but not quite perfect picture @ the native 1920x1200.

I'll give this a try, noticed that my 2405 really struggles with scrolling vertical credits in movies.

Its only to assist with mpeg2 encoded media. For avi try the free fffdshow codecs:

This has seemed to improve things markedly. I do not now seem to get any artefacts and everything seems a lot smoother. I don't know how, but I seem to get less blurring on fast scenes now as well (I would have thought that was down to the monitor).

Overall a great improvement.

Thats just marketing hype. In real world useage little to no difference between the 2 as when you tweak the Nvidia cards with digital vibrance looks just as good IQ as ATI.

Yeah I was surprised as got so fed up with trying all the different dvd players and none looked any better. Shame you have to pay for it but even that is not Nvidias fault as they have to pay a hefty licensing fee to the MPEG2 standards authority otherwise it would be free.
