Not sure if this should be in this forum of the Linux one.
We have been using the "User Name Mapping" feature under Linux Services under Windows Server 2003 for our Linux users.

Means that we can control Linux users and their passwords in the same way we do Windows users.

We've slowly been upgrading many of our servers to 2008 R2.
We introduced a new DC, transferred FSMO roles over to it.
However we couldn't get the Linux login's to behave.
On further reading we find that Microsoft have decided to remove "User Name Mapping" from the Services for NFS.

Now I can't believe MS would have done this without providing a different method to achieve the same.
Initial reading says we'd need to leave a legacy machine (Win2k3 Server) running to do this - which I can't believe would be the only solution.

Is anyone else running a mixed Windows/Linux environment and using AD for their Linux users too?
How are you running this under a Win2k8 R2 server?
