User permissions - accessing My Docs from different user.

My hard drive is near crashing, and Lost windows because of it. I have bought a new drive and installed windows on it. I am plugging the old drive into the system to copy My Documents, outlook pst files, favorites (all files in Documents and Settings). However I do not have permission to do this.

I have had a similar problem before where I needed to boot in safe mode and change the permissions some how.

Can anybody remind me how this is done please?

Okay, open my computer > tools > folder options > view > untick 'use simple file sharing' > click OK > right click the docs and settings folder you want to copy > properties > security > advanced > owner > enter your username > click OK
