Typically solved by editing the registry: HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > Current Version > Profile List - expand that out, and your corrupted one will end in .bak; providing that the 'temp' one isn't using the same SID you can just remove that .bak and reboot; otherwise you'll have to rename the non ".bat" duplicate as something else - like .new.
Create a new account and see if the problem follows.
I have seen this a lot at work when the machine looses contact with the DC and can chuck a paddy temp profiles and stuff later on.
