User Profile Permissions Server 2k8

Hi all,

I am having a problem setting the permissions for differents users profiles.

The User profiles are stored on \\DATA-SERVER\Users Home Directories\ this server is running WHS VAIL, it cannot be joined to a domain, which i think is problem

after copying across the user profiles, i need to set permissions, however when i try to add permissons for the domain users (hellardr, hellardn etc) I cant do it, as it only lets me look for users under the DATA-SERVER location

is there anything i can do to assign permissions to the domain users?
or can it not be done?

So you're wanting to store user profiles on a box that isn't on the Domain?

yes thats what i want to do, well thats the only thing i really can do.

Its just for me to try stuff out, I'm only 16 and just trying to learn with the limited resources i have....

Put the profiles on your DC.

You'll learn this lesson eventally. Keep testing for....testing. You'll break something and every pc in the house will be broken.

yes i would put them on the DC but a) i don't have enough space for everything on there and b) that would be boring

Then it cannot be done. You cannot add NTFS permissions for users that the server cannot see.

You'll have to either put them on a domain member server, or leave them unsecured.
