I’ve just assembled a machine from old parts we’ve had sitting around in work – it’s a P3 600, 384MB Ram and a 20GB HDD. Now that its built and running XP I’m wondering what to do with it. I was thinking of putting Linux on it but don’t really know why or what I could do with it up and running.
We have a Windows 2003 domain with 100+ XP clients, so any innovative suggestions on what the PC could be put to use for would be welcomed. its completely redundant at the moment, so anything is possible! :D

Thanks

network monitoring, proxy server with filtering, print server, spam filter, firewall etc etc

what do you want to do with it?

Quite like the idea of a network monitor if I cant find anything better to use it for. What else can i do with it? how well can linux integrate into a windows domain environment?

windows intergration:-

NT4 = winbind AD = kerobose (sp)

network monitoring, nagios,zabbix, big brother might be paid for?

cheers

perfect mailscanner. debian, postfix, mailscanner, clamav and spamassassin. some good guides at howtoforge and piratefish.

Been running the one based on piratefish for around 3 months now and its working great.
