I currently have a low-mid range self made system which is:

Q6600 OC to 2.8Ghz
4GB DDR2 @ 1066mhz
8800GTX
P5K Mobo.

Anyways since as Jumpgate evolution is due i fancied plugging my pc it into my 50inch plasma, which is 1080i not p. What i want to know is, can i change the resolution to 1920x1080 thro VGA or will i have to buy a HDMI gfx card to use the 1080 option?

Any advice would be great, cheers all.

Should be fine, I had a Geforce 5 plugged into mine, made me feel sick playing Freelancer on it though!

Oh, and plasmas arnt great for PC's as you get image burn with fixed images left for a long time (like windows desktop), make sure you set a screensaver on like 5 mins.

Oh yeah i have seen that image burn a few times to be honest. Yeah setting a screen saver sounds like a shout.

So i will be able to change the resolution to 1920x1080 thro VGA connection yeah? will it effect the preformance even tho the GFX card is having to put out 50inch's of display rather than 22inchs?, obviously its going to effect the FPS if i use a higher res, but will i get the same FPS if the setting were both the same on the 50" or the 22"?

I've never understood why people dont just buy LCD's or plasma's instead of monitors since as their they offer high res for cheaper prices and you can watch TV when u get bored lol!

The quality of picture a TV produces is very bad compared to a monitor. Also who would want a 50" plasma for anything other than watching films and playing games. Imagine word processing........

You wont be able to run 1920x1080 because that is 1080p resolution, youll be running 1366x786 or something like that, which is 1080i but VGA will be fine im sure, and yes if you use the same game setting on your plasma as your 22" then your performance will be the same.

Hawker

youll be running 720p res as stated above, perf will be better than when you run at 1680*1050 on a 22". It may look gash though, depending on how far back from your tv you sit, even with lots of AA etc. The size of the pixels on your screen will be huge compared to a monitor.

Cheers for the reply's guys. TBh i'm not intending to keep my pc perm on the 50 inch, it will be the odd weekend i fancy sitting down stairs playing jumpgate evolution. Thing is i have sound card that has optical drive meaning i can hook it up to the surround sound which will be cool!

hmmmm might just go and buy the "bush 42" 1080p" LCD for a bargin £494 in argos, any1 seen that wow fair do's ... Deal!
