Using a 8 pin atx in a 4 mobo head

Can I do that? Just upgraded to ivy bridge but I don't have the 4 pin atx mobo connector with me but I can plug in half of my 8 pin, it fits but is it safe?

yeah its fine,thats why they split into two 4 pin plugs

There is a notch to orientate the connector, so it's relatively idiot proof. As usual, never use excessive force, it should just clip in.

Yes mate it's fine. You might notice your 24pin block splits aswell. This is so the PSU could power much older mobos with a 20pin connector. It's just to make the PSU more versatile, it's 100% safe

Same thing for GPU's too, they have it partly split due to most GPU's not using the full plug (high power cards).
It just goes off to the side, looks abit off, but you can easily tuck them away or fold them down and put a tie around them.

My 8 pin doesn't actually split I just only have half of it plugged in.
