I am wanting to use a wireless adsl modem/router as just a wireless router connected to a ethernet cable modem, so i have a wireless network. Is this possible and if so what parts/settings do i need to use (the router in question is a Netgear DG834GT)?

Thanks in advance guys :)

really?? I did setup a similiar thing with a netgear wireless modem/router and a non wireless adsl2+ modem (think it was a DG834G it had better wireless than the adsl2+ modem) about a year or 2 ago for a friend???

edit- Do i need to get a cable wireless router to attach to the cable modem?

You can't make the ADSL router work as a router with a cable modem - the best you can do is hook the modem to one of the switch ports and you've got a wireless bridge.

You need a router that doesn't have a modem built in.

what i want is to use the adsl wireless router so wireless users can use the cable connection, i was thinking of connecting the cable modem to adsl wireless router, then using the wireless network if you get what i mean???

The only place you could connect the cable modem to would be one of the switch ports, so you'd only be able to connect one user at a time (and might have to reset the modem each time the user changed too, it would depend what MAC address the modem saw).

What it sounds like you did before was bridge two ADSL routers, using the ADSL modem (and router bits) on one, and the wireless on the other.
