Hi all
I'm basically trying to establish a home network for the house (I share with 3 other people), but I'd like some proper QoS control. I've played with my wireless router's settings and I could never find settings that'd allow me to cap any devices' upload and download bandwidth.
The reason I need this is just so that everyone in the house would be able to at least use the web when someone else is downloading. It's particularly important for one of my flatmates who has to do a lot of online research for his papers, and someone else downloading music on their computer could completely kill his connection.
Now I remember living in a house back at uni where someone else had already setup a PC downstairs to the modem, which has some sort of QoS control. One of the housemates was able to check and see if anyone's abusing the internet usage and control it. I recall not ever having any internet trouble at that house.
So I guess I'd like to setup something similar, and I've done a bit of googling without really knowing what to look for unfortunately.
Does anyone have any experience in this field and could make recommendations of what I should be looking for?
I intend on using my PC as the access point since it's sitting in the living room next to the modem and wireless router (i'm connected via LAN). I'd need to get a wireless card I'd imagine, but would I need any other hardware as well?
Many thanks in advance!
