Hey i registered yesterday and was wondering if using my curent router a Netgear DG834G is a good idea. I know you get that speedtouch one but would rather stick with what ive got if its compatable and all.

Would using the netgear affect the speed pings could ge?

What is the firewall like? Is it any good? How easy is it to set up bf2 and a 360 for live.

adsl2+ on that router sucks if you use upto date version. Also dont be give you a free router called the be* box?

My friend is using one of those on Be and gets pretty much the full sync speed, just make sure you are using it with the latest firmware, or have a look around for the UberGT firmware, it adds a few extra features and is also recomended by Be.

As for the BeBox, its not that bad. It will be more than adequate for most users and is one of the better routers that ISP's give out with their connections.
Just have a browse around the official Be forums for a couple of guides on how to fully secure it by removing the backdoor admin accounts etc.

How recent is the latest firmware? As thinking about it this was last march time and he updated to the latest and then it dropped sync every 10 ish hours or there abouts but with the bebow it was rock steady (be it slightly lower sync)

I signed up for 'Be' Friday just gone I have a Speedtouch 585v6 or a Netgear DG834Gv3 to choose from, I think the Be box is a 585 so I hear?

I may keep the Netgear on as it hasn't dropped my connection once 2 months or so :D

Activation on the 12th of this month :) can't wait

can you please tell me if you got the option online for the routers or did you order by phone ?

sorry i just read that again and i take it you mean that you already have those routers yourself i thought you meant they gave you the option.

I think you get one anyway there isn't an option from what I saw?

I'll be sending it back if that's the case but I'm sure you get it as part of the package?

The router is leased to you while you have a connection from Be.

I don't use mine, its in a box under the stairs :) Although I kept hold of it so I always had a spare incase my DG834N died on me unexpectedly.

I can't be certain, but I'm sure the DG834G is not as good as the DG834GT due to different chipsets.

I think the DG834G uses a Texas Instruments chipset, whilst the DG834GT uses a Broadcom chipset, which is a similar chipset to the BeBox, so it will work better. That's the impression I got from the be forums after reading up on it.

Feel free to prove me wrong though :)

I'm currently using an old Sky router (a GT) flashed with the UberGT firmware and it seems pretty decent so far, port forwarding works for one thing!

i have a DG834G v2 which i don't think will work on be as it doesn't say anything on the netgear website about the v2 doing ADSL2+ but it dose for the v3 so if i have to get a new router what should i be looking at ?

i am using dg834gv2 with be for last couple of days with firmware V3.01.31 with no problem and so far its rock solid but i am getting 1mb less sync rate with netgear compare to bebox but a lot more stable connection with netgear.Wireless connection on bebox was keeping droping out thats why i am using netgear so basically its upto you what you want extra speed with bebox or solid connection with netgear dg834gv2

moved from the netgear 834g when i was on zen to the be box and i hardly have any problems with it.

wireless works a treat and hardly ever needs resetting once every 4 months may be less.
i tweaked the box though closing off some open ports from standard (there's a guide on the be forums)

i am very happy with it!

I have Be and use the bebox (Thomson Speedtouch 780WL) and I love it. Best wireless router I have ever used, I get wireless signal through 3 walls and 2 floors!
