Using a DVI to VGA Convertor on a Mac mini-DVI to DVI convertor for my MacBook

Hey everyone

I just brought an adaptor to use my macbook on monitors and projectors, now I know that VGA is the standard and DVI is for better quality, but since my monitors are DVI capable and I had a DVI to VGA convertor with them I figured if I bought a mini-DVI to DVI convertor from the mac store I could use the DVI to VGA convertor to use on all computers.

Problem is the convertor that came with my graphics card has 4 extra lil pins on it around the horizontal pin which isn't on the DVI part from the make store so I can't put them together.

Does this mean that the mini-DVI to DVI convertor can't then be used with another convertor to get it to work with VGA?

So there is no way I can get this DVI convertor from the mac store to work on a VGA output??

If that is so, that majorly sucks!! lol

Cheers for the reply

Nope, definitely can't do it. This was going to be my plan, but I've not needed a DVI one anyway so never had to buy the extra adapter.

Yeah unfortunately while it would have been incredibly easy to make a Mini-DVI to DVI-I adaptor, Apple didn't feel like it, so you have to buy both.
