Using a mic while playing minecraft

I know that minecraft doesn't have a feature for using a mic but how could me and my friend do a private chat?

The server me and my friend play on has a vent server but I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to vent. I'm connected to the vent but how do you set up a private chat?

Go into an empty room. If your mate has admin, get him to make a passworded room.
