using a Mini ATX case as an external GPU Enclosure?

Hi all,

so i'm wanting to upgrade my laptop which has a 970M card.

I don't really want a new laptop, wanted to explore using the thunderbolt connection to add external GPU. My issue here is the enclosures are bloody expensive!

So my question is, I I bought a Master Cooler H100 box, put a half decent card in there and connect it to my dock. Is it as simple as that?

Just wondering where the additional cost comes in for these GPU enclosures really. I might just slowly build the case into a new PC as the hub I'm looking at is £200 alone which again brings me closer to just making a new rig. Which is why i'm hoping to use the H100 case, it means I can add parts to it over time and eventually do away with the laptop and use it on it's own. but for the time being use it as a GPU enclosure

If I use an external hard-drive for work stuff it means the laptop can still be used when i'm away.

The aim is to have a decent system at home and a half decent system for business trips.
