I've always thought karaoke to be a worst nightmare scenario. But a couple of years ago I visited a 'lucky voice' with a few good friends - and having no audience and all singing along together totally transformed it into a great experience.
I've occasionally thought, off the back of that experience, of getting karaoke at home, but always backed out at the idea of quite a high cost and the likelihood that it'd be very seldom used. But it's occurred to me recently - could I achieve a karaoke setup rather cheaply using my PC as a basis?
I've already achieved one step of this plan by combining Spotify with Musixmatch - which seems to work well for getting the lyrics displayed at the right time.
So my questions which I'm hoping someone can help with are:
1) Can I get these lyrics, and the music, on to the TV screen instead of the monitor? I'm thinking a long HDMI cable - but are there limits to how long you can go? I reckon 4 or maybe 5 metres would be enough for me. And will HDMI from my graphics card carry the sound to a good standard? I know playing sound through my monitor is very underwhelming, but I assume that's more to do with the speakers than the transmission method?
2) If I get a couple of wireless microphones connected to the PC, how do I get the sound output to combine these with the Spotify feed? Can I just do this in windows volume mixer? Or do I need some mixer software?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice!
(And - in case anyone is worried - proof of concept will be our household only. No big parties until lockdown is over!
