Using a Phantom3 GTX 580 (Hopefully)

I've had an issue with my GTX 580 order from overclockers. But presuming it gets resolved....

Is anyone out there currently using a Gainward Phantom3 GTX580? And if so, do you have any advice or would you just slam it in, update the drivers and play away?

I'm not interested in overcloking it unless there is something simple I can do with an obvious gain.

uninstall the old driver
shut down
install the card
install the latest driver from the nvidia website

I was sceptical about overclocking my GPU the first time I got it but it's actually far easier than you would expect. I went from 797/2025 (1.088v) to 880/2100 (1.1v) and I can see a noticeable difference, I gained about 6 FPS on average when playing Metro 2033.

But even if you're not going to overclock you should definitely still get MSI afterburner like Krony said, just so you can set a custom fan profile - which really does make a difference.
