Using a PSU abroad?

Check what your PSU says on it. If it says 110-240V, then it may work. You may need a conversion transformer because UK mains runs at a different frequency, voltage and current compared to the US.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a psu out there? Or would the rest of the components go boom due to them being weird and different?

No, the whole point of a PSU is to convert whatever is coming from the mains supply to a variety of voltages for use by components connected to it.

OP, your PSU will be fine when used in the USA. All PSUs are rated for 100-240V. Some older ones will have a switch to go from 100-230/240. Why do you think you sometimes get a US or European kettle lead in the box along with a UK one?

Producing different PSU SKUs for all of the different mains supplies worldwide would be a bloody nightmare!
