I'm looking to purchase a roller blind (used for blocking out sunlight and privacy for windows) as a white background to take product photography.

Would this be a viable option?

I can use white paper/card, but thinking this might be better in the short term?

Cheers!

Have a look here for inspiration for a basic diy concept:

Depending on the final look you want you can hang / clamp the blind up above a dining room table or similar, get the sweep required and you're good to go with the right lighting.

Two pieces of reasonable size foam core board (art supplies shop) or white board from B&Q or similar could perform a similar job as well.

I'll have a couple of LED lights lighting from either side I think.

I'll see if my local wilko has the one I'm looking for in stock and have a play around tonight.
