I have been looking at the Dell ultrasharp U2410 and U2711 monitors. The 2410 can be had on fleabay new for about £420. The 2711 around £600 new

Yesterday my dad bought this for £400

Samsung UE32C5800 32-inch Widescreen 50Hz Slim LED Full HD TV with Freeview HD

Full HD and whole lot bigger than both Dells

Is it not a good idea to use standard TVs as monitors, what are the draw backs?

I have a 40" Series 7 Samsung LED TV which I have used as a monitor on a couple of occasions. It looks fantastic.

In terms of draw backs, I would say that you might suffer from input lag and ghosting on some of the faster games. It depends on what sort of picture processing features are available on that tv. I switch my Samsung to "Game Mode" whenever I use it with the PC or my PS3. This reduces the amount of picture processing that the tv applies to the input signal which (supposedly) reduces input lag.

So is the Samsung UE32C5800 a good idea? I use programs like photoshop and ableton and read text a lot on it. Would it be fine for smaller detailed work?
