Hi all,
quick question if i may, first though this is my current overclock:

4770K @4.6 via multi (46) cache ratio (45) vcore @1.3v adaptive.
Corsair vengeance pro series 1866 @2133 9-10-10-31 1T

As you can see i've overclocked my system using the multiplier, but recently read a few topics that talk of using a strap to overclock too.

I've had a google for info and tbh it's a little confusing so was wondering if you guys could help explain the Pro and Cons of using a strap when overclocking.

Most i've been able to get out of my cpu is 4.8 @1.4 but temps using my H100 started going south of 75c so decided on 4.6 as my 24/7 overclocked.

I did read that a strap can help get the same overclock but will less volts, and as i'm still saving for a waterloop, i thought i'd ask to see if this is the case.

Cheers for any advice or info.

David.

Cheers avenged, I could probably get it much lower than 1.4 @4.8 in truth, was just quickly testing it, it was happy on bf4 @4.7 1.320v.

I'm more than happy with its performance and temps at 4.6 1.3v, was just curious about it as I plan on getting a nice waterloop when funds allow.

Cheers guys for the info and advice.

Had a little play around today trying to get the vcore as low as possible for 4.6,
Started at 1.3v and it's now happy and stable @1.25.

Only tested a few cpu heavy games like Bf4/Arma 3 and some handbrake, all fine so i think i'll leave it at 4.6.

Cheers Avenged,
In regards to the 290X, max i've been able to run (benchmark depending) is 1250/1625.
Not bad for a reference card on stock cooling, next is to get the lot under water and really push.

Very nice clocks indeed avenged! I to have elpida memory so think I'm stuck at 1625 too.
But I'm hoping the core has plenty more to give.

What's your vrm temps like with the block fitted?
