Using a tablet as a wireless touchscreen monitor/dumb terminal

Its possible to buy 7" touch screen monitors which connect to your PC via a USB cable (and are powered by it too). If you removed the wire (and added a battery) you'd basically have a 'dumb' tablet, all it does is display what the PC is outputting and allow input via the touch screen. I know there's various apps for both iPads and Android tablets which let you do just that but you're still running the tablet software underneath. A dumb tablet wouldn't need any computing power or memory, just enough to display the output and relay commands, so if they exist I'm hoping they're cheaper than the iPad and its Android competitors.

Does anyone know of any dumb tablets like I just described? My Android phone can be set as a basic media player remote but I want something tablet sized. For instance, to watch a film in bed without having to have a PC in the room or to plonk it down in the kitchen while cooking (badly). It'd be like having an iPad but only so long as you're in wifi range of your PC. I don't want to spend £400+ on an iPad I won't use to its fullest but I'd still like to have some of its functionality around the house.

I suppose some sort of hacked low end tablet might work too but that'd assume someone has written such a software implementation already.

Anyone heard of anything like this or is this a gap in the market I should quickly trademark?
