I have a opty 185 and 2x1gb corsair 3500ll pro mem, and I want another gig to bring it up to 3gb.

I will buy 2x512mb corsair 3200C2Pro memory, I know I will have to run it on 2T, but will I still be able to overcock the fsb to 214?

Thanks.. I had a fx55 clawhammer in before I got my opty 185,, and I tried 3gb in it then, and I think the fsb would only clock to 206mhz.

But like a fool I sold my 1gb a few weeks later:mad::mad::mad: If only I knew I would have been upgrading my cpu, dammit. It was the best ddr1 corsair mem you could get too, with timings of 2.0-2-2-5

Im so stupid, but I got £74 for it tho:p

Yeh,, think they still pop up now and again on ebay. Saying that Ive just bought " 2x512Corsair CMX512 3200C2 PRO with the leds" of the bay for £23. there not as good as my old 1gb I had, but will they do the job??

Well they will be all set to the same timings and speed, basicaly the faster 2 sticks will pull back to the same speed as the slower sticks,, or that what happen when i put my old 1gb in, cos my old 1gb mem had better timings then my 2gb upgrade, so the 1gb had to change to the same timings as my 2gb upgrade.

I got RMA replacements for 2 kits of Geil DDR550 and in my DFI NF4 Ultra-D using a Venice 3000+ and with all 4 dimms it does 275 FSB with the memory at 1:1 no problem (vdimm is only 2.6v):

The default when BIOS options are set to auto is DDR333! :D

It does depend on the motherboard and CPU but I'm sure with a decent board you should have no problems with your Opteron 185. The main concern would be problems related to the other dimms SPD settings being different but you would likely be able to fix such issues by modifying the SPD so they match.

Nice... Well with my 2gb mem in at the mo, it can go over 260 easy i would have thought,, When I had my fx55 cpu it was on 11x253 and it was rock solid. But for some reason with the opty, when I play games at those settings I get the BSOD countdown thing afer a few mins of playing then it resets, but its fine at 13x213,, Any idea what that is about?

Actually why not sell your 939 kit and switch to a P35 or 965 based motherboard and the E2180 overclocked to ~3GHz and 4GB DDR2?

It's likely you would get a fair amount of the needed cash from selling your 939 kit and it would save any hassles trying to get mismatched dimms working. More future proof too if you wanted to go for a quad core in the near future. :)

Too much hassle, and I want to keep this as a 2nd pc, cos my family use my pc too,, and its a pain when I want to use my own pc and someones using it, and if im upgrading it of something, its world war 3:D. When I do a full upgrade in about a yrs time, I want the fastest there is, with 8gb of mem or something stupid like that, so it will last me another 3 or 4 yrs.

Just been searching on the net,, and I think the stuff ive just bought (2x corsair CMX-512 PC3200C2 pro) use the same timings as my 2x1gb corsair XMS3500LL PRO. Can anyone confirm this for me please?

Got the mem today, and it works fine accept usb 2.0 devices wont work, but usb 1.0 devices work... Do you think im pushing the board too far? Ive tried swapping the memory in diff combinations, but cant get usb2 devices to work... any ideas guys

Thats the thing, I have no pci slots free.. Ive just disabled usb 2.0 in the bios,, and all my usb devices are working fine, but I need usb2 cos I have 2 external usb harddrives that I use for backing up, on usb 1 the drives will be like a snail.

Think im giving up with my system,, its perfoming worse wit the extra gig,, it was doing superpi in 30secs, now 35secs:mad: . its still at 213x13 but it has a devider of 2/1.66, so the fsb is only in the 180s... anyone want my opty for £100, its not even 2months old?lol

Ok, Ive spent hours trying to get the right settings, and this is what Ive come up with
dscf0251al9.jpg

With timings of 2.5-4-4-9 and I think 2cmd, but I will change it to 1 and prob tighten up the timings a bit more..But as you can see the DDR is only 378,, I thought with this cpu the memory would oc??? but its as bad as my fx55 clawhammer with all 4 mem slots used.

AlSo should I enable the H/W MEM REMAP?

Edit:....... V F, Thanks very much for your info on the usb2.0 prob, still cant get it working, so what I will have todo is, when I need to copy/move large things, I'll enable the usb2.0 and do it from winxp.. thankgod for the dual boot, xp/vista

yeh, its strange cos that option has only just popped up since I got the opty cpu

Soz about thinking of selling my cpu last night , I was just really hacked off that Ive spent £170 in the last few weeks on my system and the extra gig had downgraded it. I think Ive got it back up to speed now, Its doing superpi in 34secs now, and I was wromg, it was my fx55cpu that can do it in 30secs,, I Think the opty can do it in 32sec with the 2X 1gig sticks in.

But why would my opty run superpi slower then my fx55 if they are both the same speed and cache size??

Is there anyway to get the mem passed 374, to at least default speed of 400???? Ive tried putting more voltage though the mem, slackened of the timings and changed the HT frequency ratio to 3X, but still cant get it passed 374.

I thought ppl said my memory wouldnt get underclocked with my opty 185?? Ive managed to knock another sec of superpi, now its down to 33secs. I bet prime95 fails tho.

How does that all look to you guys? The mem is now running at 366mhz.

Can I make the "dram idle timer" and the "bank cycle time" any better???, cos Im not sure about those 2. As you can see Ive made the others as low as poss. I could change the 7 to a 6 but it doesnt do anything for super pi. The mem is now running at 333mhz.
