Using an adsl2+ router on fibre?

Hi i have a adsl2+ router modem that i'd like to use temporarily with my plus net fibre. I tried just stick the ethernet from the fibre modem into the router but that didnt work. How do I get it to work? The router is an netgear one from a few years back.
