Using both the Intel and discrete GPU for lowering noise?

Hi,

Is it possible to use both the Intel GPU and the discrete one for loweing the total noise in the PC? For example, is it possible to totally shut down the discrete GPU in 2D apps, use only the Intel one and then in 3D use the discrete?

If not what other alternatives are for lowering the noise while in 2D/watching movies? The discrete GPU is an EVGA GTX680.
