Using D-Link DIR-868L as Wireless AP problem

Hi all,

I've used link below to setup the D-Link DIR-868L Router to be used as a Wireless AP.

• Disable UPnP™
• Disable DHCP
• Change the LAN IP address to an available address on your network. The LAN ports on the router cannot accept a DHCP address from your other router.

I then connect an Ethernet cable from my 8 port Netgear switch, to the D-Link LAN1 port.

The problem is the Router doesn't seem to think it has Internet, so I cannot update Firmware through the interface or get it to see a NTP server to update time/date.

If I connect my Phone to the Wi-Fi it's broadcasting, that is working.

If it is hard coded to only attempt to connect to the outside world via the WAN port then you'll just have to put up with the time being wrong.

When you make any Router a Wi-Fi Repeater/AP's, is there no way for it to pick up an Internet connection, say to Upgrade Firmware over the Internet or update the time over the Internet?

We currently use a few old Netgear routers at work as Wi-Fi Repeaters/AP's, I've set them up the same, disable UPnP, DHCP and giving it an IP Address. When trying to check for Firmware it fails to think it has an Internet connection also, but I can connect to my Phone/Laptop just fine.

By default the router will assume that its WAN port is the default gateway. As it won't be connected to anything it won't work.

In the unlikely event that the router will allow its gateway to be reconfigured to point to the network's actual gateway address it could connect out.

From the screenshots I've provided, does it look like I'd be able to? If you look at the Internet page screenshots above, my default gateway is 192.168.0.1 but it refuses to play ball.

I think I've maybe bought the wrong kit for purpose here.

Have you tried turning off DNS relay? Also, I have put googles public dns in my Dir655 that I am using in the same way
