Using DDNS on LAN issue- connection loss

I'm having some issues getting my ip camera to work with my RT-N66U router using a ddns on the LAN.

I have setup ddns on my router with a *****.asuscomm.com domain name. I have also setup a ddns on my Foscam FI8910w ip camera using *****myfoscam.org name and have it on port 85. I have also forwarded this port to the relevant ip for my camera and have reserved the ip.

Externally, e.g. over 3G on my phone this setup works perfectly and I get routed correctly, etc. However, if I use the same ddns (*****.myfoscam.org) on my LAN, to try and access the camera, I lose connection to the network along with everything else! The whole network literally falls over and no one has connectivity. Is there any reason why this is happening? I can't see it being a conflict as the ports have been forwarded and I've tried disabling upnp.

Any ideas??

Probably a NAT reflection/loopback problem. Assuming the router supports it you just need to find the option and check it's enabled.

I quick search suggests that the Asus firmware doesn't support loopback, but some of the third-party options do.

Ah I see! Would something like merlin's firmware suffice? Some of the changelogs seem to address some nat loopback issues, but no mention of a checkbox.
