Using existing AUX with aftermarket stereo

I've just got an aftermarket stereo which has an AUX input on the front.

My Mazda2 already has an AUX - is it possible to keep using this with the new stereo?

At the end of the day the aux that already fitted is just two wires. If you can find where they come out in the loom then it should be fairly simple to just wire it in to the aux input of your new stereo. If your new stereo has a second aux on the back then it will be nice and tidy.

Exactly as above, but it would be advantageous to not only find the two wires, but also to work out which is L and R.

The stereo I've purchased (can be easily returned) only has a front AUX unfortunately - I suppose I could run the cable through the gap underneath as it will be a single-DIN unit in a double-DIN space?
