Hi all,

I wasn't quite sure where this topic should go so I thought it'd be easiest posting it here.

I've just built a new system (i7, 6gig RAM, good mobo + gfx) and installed Windows 7 on a new HD. Now I was wondering if it would be possible to plug my existing HD with Vista installed on it, to transfer all my files over.
I don't really know what would happen boot wise with two HD's with seperate OS's installed on each, or would it possible to set it up as a slave drive?!

Basically not quite sure what to do and could use a bit of advice.

Cheers.

It should be fine. I plugged in a HD with xp on.

Just appears in my computer no trouble, and didn't have to setup boot priority. Try it and see.

It'll try to boot from whichever you set the bios to try first. If the windows 7 drive, it'll be fine, and the old one (with whatever partitioning system) will show up in "computer". If it tries the vista one first, there's a fair chance it'll just bluescreen when booting. If it doesn't, expect it to behave erratically and crash more often than normal, windows doesn't appreciate hardware changing around.

Just make the drive with the Win7 your boot disc as JonJ678 said. You should have no problems then transfering data files across from your old Vista drive.
