using external HDD (firewire 800) in windows via bootcamp

Last night I installed windows ultimate 32bit on my mbp using bootcamp. Got everything working properly except for 1 thing.. windows does not detect my external hard disk drive (im using Wester Digital My Book Studio 750GB). Its connected via the firewire800. When I open "My Computer" the external drive doesnt even show up. Does windows support this type of connection? Or does windows only recognise usb?

The only file system that will work out of the box on both OSes is fat32, sadly.

im not sure what the disk is formatted to..I didnt format it when i bought it. Just used it out of the box straight away.

how would i know which format is my hard drive in?
Also, any work around this?

Open up the disk utility in OS X, click on the partition on the disk, and look at the info printed to the bottom of the right pane. It's probably already "MS DOS file system" which is fat32. That'd be a good thing.

umm where do i find this disk utility? (sorry still new mac owner)

utilities or spotlight for it (command + space)

Windows can't read that File System unless you want pay for Macdrive or something

cheers mate. that explains it. might look into buying macdrive as I have no extra space to transfer my files for a reformat
