I have a gtx280 comes with a dvi to hdmi connector, ie fits onto back off GP, the point I'am finnally getting 2 is can I get sound out from pc through that connection which plugs into hdmi on TV.

Your card should have came with a small thin wire (not sure of its name) that will connect your GTX280 with your sound card giving you sound over HDMI.
