Using HDMI for sound only

Hi Folks,

I have a HTPC that I play through a 1366x768 (I think) HD TV.

I origionally had it connected using a HDMI cable so both sound and picture went through the cable to the tv.

However, using the HDMI cable I can only get a resolution of 1280x760 so I have to usea VGA cable to get the native res, however I haven't got a sound cable from the pc to the tv.

Before I splash out £5 (!!!) can I use a vga cable to display picture but still have sound go through the hdmi cable?
 
Not on my TV at least... HDMI is Pic or Pic+Sound, if your TV input is set to other than one of the HDMIs then they will be inactive.
