Hi,

I was just thinking about this. Is it ok to use the hibernate function on Windows, pack my laptop away and then transport it around the place?

I mean, is there any more chance the hard disk could become damaged if the laptop is on hibernate rather than turned off?

There is no more chance than normal of HDD damage as the PC is shut completely down. The only difference is that the contents of system RAM are written to the hiberfil.sys file on the C: drive and when the PC is powered back on this is then written back into RAM and the PC continues exactly from the point at which it was shut down.

Work away with hibernation.

Excatly, the machine is in the same state as when it is switched off. If you use stadby over hibernate the machine is still on but the hard disk will still be off, so either is fine really :)

Just a warning, Windows isn't guaranteed to come out of hibernation, so DO save any open files first.

It is handy though, especially when you just can't be bothered to wait for windows to boot and then open all your programs.
