All set for upgrade build to HTPC in livingroom hooked up to plasma tv.
1080p gaming max settings, XBMC for movies all that good stuff.

Sit across from TV on big leather soft sofa which SORT OF works as a mouse mat when using the PC.

Mouse skips all over the shop though so no use for FPS gaming.
Have Portal 2 and Half Life2 installed and its a pain in the butt trying to play.
Awkward, awkward and a pain in the wrists :)

Theres got to be a better way to use a gaming PC from the couch???

Thanks! :)

any cheaper options guys?
just blew nearly £400 on a "big 3" upgrade for this pc!

Anything that would let me use my current kb/mouse... laptop table or whatever?
Ikea mibbay?

not a lot left to spend!

I've got a couple of dinovo minis. Ideal for media pcs. I use one in my bedroom too, the backlit keyboard is excellent when the lights are down.

thanks guys.

been looking at the Logitech K400, think thats the one for me.
Should solve most of my problems and is quite cheap too.

With the trackpad (as opposed to a mouse), how would this go for FPS gaming?
Usually just use the mouse to look about, will the trackpad be good enough for this you think?
Thinking if not, I could just connect up a wireless mouse when I'm gaming - should work
good enough on the arm of my sofa!

(Not a hardcore gamer, but looking forward to BF3 and the like on my new HTPC)

Why not use a wired xbox pad? Sure you could find one going cheap 2nd hand. I did suggest a lil keyboard with built in trackpad but if you prefer the k400 thats cool. Obviously some games aren't meant to be played with a gamepad but these games (eg RPG,RTS) tend to be mouse intensive and the trackpad will be ok.

Yeah, looked at the keyboard on your link. Looked great but a bitsy bit small for my sausage fingers :)
Had a try with the K400 before in a computer store and a good fit for me.

Never thought about a games controller....wlll get a few games under my belt and see how the K400 fares.
Noticed OCUK dont do 'em, so picking one up from my local "Shooting Star" store. :)

Thanks for all the help guys..almost there.

I apologise i missed the gaming requirement. Only saw the HTPC requirement, you're quite right for gaming that lil keyboard isn't going to be much cop.

If you want to use a xbox pad it has to be a wired one. You will need a reciever to use the wireless pads (you cant use the play and charge USB lead either btw) adding to cost.

Glad we could help :)

Cool, thanks.
Ideally be looking for a wireless pad though...
any thoughts on a good reasonably priced one?

Thinking the Xbox 360 controller for Windows?

*EDIT* JUST BOUGHT ONE.

Thanks for all teh help, looking forward to my new gaming htpc build.
Crysis 3 here I come :)
