Helping someone to set up a small 'shop' with the theory that they can maintain it themself - looked at a few options and with Magento being too commercial orientated, it seems Joomla might prove a better option. Has anyone used Joomla for this kind of thing?

Did a clean install and it seems a little overloaded - so I disabled everything and now left with an empty site! Done a bit of trial and error to get things back but can't work out which items I should be putting in there.

Shop's only going to have maybe 4 or 5 items each with quite a bit of text - any guidance? It'd be nice to be able to understand Joomla much better myself after this :)

I was looking at Virtue Mart before - still doesn't seem to fit what I was envisaging, that's like blending Magento in. I'll have a go with Prestashop and see what that's like.

This is all seeming far too complicated... I can see the wide possibilities of Joomla, but how easy is it just to create some pages (say 4 or 5 as before) and have them linked to down the left hand side?

I'm trying to avoid the blog looking kind of idea as would be provided by WordPress, but getting confused with the Joomla jargon! This has turned into a personal quest to understand this...

Right, here's a screenshot of my current stopper.

Link

Managed to get a link to a "category" on the sidebar, but inside the category.

EDIT: Aha, you can link directly to an "article". It has the date and time at the top though, anyone any idea how to get rid of that? :D

yep

on individual articles on the right hand side under parameters there is all sorts of options like display title, date author etc.

Alternative, by default the article inherit its parameters from the menu link sooo under the menu link there are all sorts of option etc etc

Excellent! Options everywhere!
