At work I need a 2nd screen, and I have a laptop on my desk which rarely gets used. Is it possible to have my laptop screen act as my 2nd monitor or can they not do this?
I'm sure it is possible, but need to be 100% sure before I attempt to mess around with my desk and dig out cables to test it.

Thanks

i know my lap top on my office desk will out put to my main monitor but cant find a way of using it as a second screen for the main work pc id like to know also as it would be handy but i think not

For the vast majority of laptops then unfortunately they don't offer this feature. Though if you are willing to sacrifice the laptop then there are ways to dissaseble a laptop's LCD and connect a different graphics card (like the one on you main PC) to it - but obviously this wouldn't allow you to use the laptop like normal.

If you don't need the connection to be responsive then you could connect the laptop to the desktop using something like VNC.

If I cannot a VGA cable using the 2nd output connection on my PC, and then go to properties, would it pick it up as a 2nd connection? Im guessing not by the replies but need to double-check?

Maybe look into running Synergy? Would still be using two different machines, but you'd be able to control the laptop using your main computers keyboard and mouse.
