My infinity installation has gone **** up, and I have been without connection for over a week. Have an engineer coming out on Monday to hopefully fix it. In the meantime I've been tethering my mobile, but I'm all but out of my data allowance.

My next door neighbour has said I can use their wifi, only problem is, I only get a signal in the hallway. Now my router is placed there, and I have Cat5 cables running to each room.

I'm wondering if i could connect to the wifi in the hall with a laptop, then use a cabled connection between that and my main PC upstairs?

Hope this makes sense

Thanks

Not easily.. you could possibly install some NAT software on there to act as a gateway.. (this is assuming you're using Windows)..

You may be able to use the internet connection sharing junk too, but i've never used that.

Did this years ago with a similar situation, using Internet Connection Sharing on Windows XP. I'd like to think there's similar setups for newer versions of Windows?

It's definitely possible with a Mac

It's possible, I did this in a really messy way when the office internet was down, but we had a restaurant that we maintain's wifi network just about reaching one of our PCs.

Right click the adapter, properties then go to sharing, and enable the internet sharing option and select the adapter that connects to the rest of the network.
