Using LCD TVs as PC monitors

This is something I've been considering for a few months now...

Ever since I went up to a 27.5 inch hanns-g monitor, I've been amazed how much it's improved my experience for both general usage and gaming, so I was thinking if 27inch seems so much better than 22... wouldn't 32 or 37inch be sweet :D

Of course I know you can buy those huge "large format displays" (the kind companies use to advertise stuff on) but a lot of them are designed to be super bright so they can be seen outside on a summers day, and also the resolution is often a bit low to sit in front of as a PC display - so the pixels would be noticeably huge and it'd probably cook your retinas.

I mean the 30inch dell is tempting, but I can't justify a grand for an upgrade that will only give me about 2.5 inches more viewable area.

Eyefinity is a great idea for a wider FOV in gaming, but I don't like it for home cinema type use since viewing a film with bezels down the picture I find a little distracting (unfortunately I haven't got room for multiple systems at the mo so the PC serves all these purposes - films, games, etc)

That's why I was thinking the best compromise would be a single large screen, at least 32inch, 37 at most, in at least 1920x1080p so the pixels weren't too noticeable... in otherwords, the size and res that is pretty standard in HDTVs.

Another benefit of this idea is that 32inch and 37inch LCD TV's are cheaper than huge monitors.

So, does anyone here successfully use a Full HD TV as a PC monitor in it's native resolution... and can you sit close to it for gaming, or does it hurt your eyes or have some other problems?

Any recommendations for a 32-37inch full hd screen, that I can run off DVI or HDMI (converter) and is comfortable to sit at and use as a monitor, would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers. :)

I have a 32" HDTV as a monitor, it is very good for movies, gaming and general use. It does give me a sore head after a few hours of gaming in a dark room lol.

I also have an aerial socket in my room which is why I opted for a TV/monitor.

Two friends of mine recently purchased Samsung 32" TV's, they are very sharp at 1080 or higher.

remember its not just about screen size you have to factor in Resolution.

i.e its likely that you went from 1280x1024 or 1680x1050 when moving to your now 1920x1200 monitor any step to a TV would actually reduce your viewable area by about 10% in moving down to 1080p

on that note i use my 46" sammy to game on and its great (football games / just cause2)

I have a 40" 1080p tv I used to use, then switched to a 24" Benq for everyday use.

I think 40" is a little too large, but still quite cool, I mean you would have to lean really close to it to see the pixels, but playing games without antialiasing like gta4 wasn't much good up close.

i still use it as a pc monitor occasionally.
