Using Macbook on Dell 2001WFP

I've connected my Macbook to this widescreen monitor with the hopes of running the desktop on the external monitor at its native res of 1680x1050. However this resoltion is not available under the Display window in OSX. Any way to fix this?

you might be running in mirror mode, press and hold the key that looks like two interlocking rectangles (it's something like F4).

Even when I was running in extended mode, the list of resolutions for the external monitor did not have 1680x1050.

I'll give that application a try. Thanks.
