Its been about 2 years since we’ve been on a family holiday. I have a 3 and 6 year old. We’ve been stuck paying crèche fee’s for what seems like for ever, mixed in with weddings abroad etc etc. We’ve got a year left of fees and are now in position where we have enough disposable income to save for one. We have around £3000, we have to take our children out of school for 10days (can we not get into whether taking them out of school is good or bad, its our choice).

Anyways, we’re jumping back in the saddle and looking to book a holiday for the 4 of us next September all inc. I know it’s a while off, but we aren’t made of money so need to save :D

So I’m just wonder what exactly other people do? I’m more interested in family holidays, than single person holidays. As I’d be confident doing it for just me and the wife, but need to make sure everything is safe and sound as we’re going as a family.

For security and to be sure we’re getting what we pay for is it worth sticking to Thompsons?

Have a look on expedia, you can get hotel and flight combinations at a pretty decent discount.

I use http://www.loveholidays.com/ they let you spread the cost over the months before you go for 0% interest and they also price match any offer.

Ive used them for the last 3 (6-7 holidays) years and they are really really good never had any problems at all.

ABTA and ATOL protected.

For all of my holidays with my gf for the past 6 years we've booked everything independently. That was until last week when we found a very good deal for an all inclusive break with a tour operator as a package.

I think you may be better off going with a company like Virgin, First Choice, Thomson, Thomas Cook etc if you've got kids as you're more likely to have entertainment and kids club things at your disposal whereas you *may* not get them if you book things separate.

Plus most major operators will have package deals available for you to book next September whereas some places wont release flights for another couple of months. Depends where you are going and what type of holiday you want really!

As above, personal choice.

For me, I really dislike flying Thomson, Thomas cook etc (the seats!!)...I bare with it if we are doing short haul and the price is reasonable.

Anything long haul I have always done independently, just booking same alliance/airline if I have connections.

Just make sure it all goes on a CC - cover yourself.
