I ran memtest86 from a USB drive on some old components my friend has due to recently upgrading his PC (P43 chipset/E7400). I suspect some of the RAM sticks may be faulty as a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit runs extremely slow and perfmon shows svchosts using all 3Gb of RAM with lots of hard faults.
I was preoccupied when memtest86 first started so I assumed it ran with default settings but as the test was running, I went into the configuration page and checked but don't believe I changed anything. Anyway, the test came up with errors but when I ran a 2nd test by actually specifying default test settings from the start, it didn't find any errors.
Are there any recommended memtest settings for the platform I'm testing, or recommended setup? I.e. use default settings on only one stick at a time?
