Using Monitor As Also A TV Question

I was going to buy a small LCD TV with my xmas cash so I can watch TV on a small screen beside my monitor when I am at my computer.

Then I saw the prices and thought it was crazy as I could get a Monitor for the same price like the Belinea 22" Widescreen.

Then I can have Dual monitor display when I need it and also a larger more crisper TV when it is not in use as a dual display and I am only using one monitor for browsing.

Also I imagine it can handle HDTV with the right TV tuner?

Anyway so I have it all worked out in theory what I would like to do but a few things i need to check!

I have been looking at external TV thingies for monitors but I have a few questions:

1) Are there TV Tuners to pick up Digital TV? I do not want to buy an anolouge one for it to be worthless after the switch over to digital only signals (also any you recommend).

2) I am guessing I need to hook up an ariel for it i presume?

3) How easy is it to be able to switch between TV and monitor use?

4) I don't need the computer switched on if I just want to watch TV do I? Just power to the monitor?

5) I have a X1800XT GFX card, does that alter anything? Can I hook up TV out and record stuff to my hard drive?

There are probabaly other questions I should be asking too which I can't think atm.

Basicaly anyone who has experience in doing this who could give me some help and tips would be great.

Thankyou for your time and I apreciate any response you can give to help me out!

1. Yes you can get DVBT tuners for your pc and they can be had for very little these days.

2. You would need a Digital ariel for it to get the best reception yes.

3. If you use your pc for TV reception and you have two monitors you can dedicate one to the TV app so no problem switching. If you get a monitor that can take a signal straight from a Digital Reciever then I would think its just a matter of swithing inputs via the screen??

4. If you are using your pc to receive digital freeview then yes it would need to be on.

5. You would'nt use 'TV Out' you need a card with dual outputs (pretty sure that has) then they are both connected as monitors and you can display what you like on them. The hard drive recording (PVR) is handled by the digital reception software.

Hope that helps a bit.
