I use an MX518 with my iBook and can't seem to find any way to use the back/forward buttons for general purpose things, such as in Finder or Opera. I know I can assign (and have done) buttons to Expose and some other functions, but nothing like in Windows.

Are there any third party apps that would help me out? Or settings in Opera?

the only trouble i have with the logitech control center is getting it to assign the side buttons go navigate back and forward but ive just had an idea writing this so 1moment :D

edit:
select the side buttons as Keystroke, and assign them to either LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW with the modifier key of the apple logo, gets it to navigate back and forth in programs

Tried using something like steermouse? It's pretty good! Allows you to setup custom mouse profiles for each application.

E.g. on my MightyMouse, when bon echo is launched, scrolling the ball sideways moves the web page forwards / backwards. While on word documents I have scroll up and down to increase the zoom!

another vote for Steermouse, use it with my iBook and Logitech MX610 its great.

Might buy it as the trial keeps running out, plus the dollar is so high at the moment I really should.

It's only £10!
